Awsworth Canal

The Nottingham Canal at Awsworth is a pleasant local canal side walk, around ten / twelve minutes drive by car, but not accessible by public transport. Well worth an inclusion in these pages.

From M1 Junction 26, take the A610 to leave at the Awsworth / Ikea slip road. Follow the Awsworth by pass for approximately one mile and look for the sign / car park on right. There is a small free car park, but care must be taken not to leave valuables on display in this slightly isolated location.

Although this stretch of the canal is now unfortunately closed to boat traffic it is well maintained as a Nature Reserve and for use by the local fishing club. Towpath and footpaths are also well maintained and there are short circular walks signposted in both directions.

A very pleasant walk in the country with not far to drive - hardly further than the hustle, bustle and parking headache that is Ikea!

If you're lucky you will spot the occasional blue flash of a kingfisher, or water voles here
