The buttons on
the left side of this page give access to information about several areas
dedicated to nature conservation.
Most of these are already designated
as Local Nature Reserves and maintained by the City or County
Councils (but not including Bestwood Ponds).
Local Nature Reserves
are statutory protected sites "which are
of high value for nature conservation and provide opportunities for
people to enjoy leisure and educational activities".
They are
designated under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act
1949.
These are sites that
are "managed for wildlife and that are also easily accessible to local people, schools
and communities for informal recreational & educational
purposes".
