Nottinghams Modern Express Transit Tram System (Line One) - Opened on 9th March 2004

First tram arrives.jpg (65272 bytes) The NET Line One  runs from Hucknall to Nottingham Railway Station – via Moor Bridge, Bulwell, Cinderhill, Radford and the Market Square, with a spur to the Phoenix Park & Ride site at Cinderhill.

It  provides a smooth, modern, fast and convenient form of transport to the City Centre and main Railway Station.
The nearest tram stations are at Moor Bridge and Bulwell, both with Free Park and Ride facilities.

The estimated journey time from Moor Bridge to the City Centre Market Square is just 24 minutes, and trams can travel at speeds up to 50mph when running alongside the Robin Hood railway line – but sticking to standard speed limits when on streets or roads.
The Tram is a very convenient facility for visiting places such as the Forest, Rock Cemetery, Vernon Park and the Arboretum. All detailed on the Local Parks Pages. As well as giving direct access to the City Centre and Midland Railway Station

The stops have full C.C.T.V. coverage with cameras linked to a 24 hour security room.
An emergency help point is installed from which passengers can call the tram control centre if they see anyone acting illegally or need information, advice or assistance.

Each tram is capable of carrying 190 passengers, (including 62 seated).

Each of the 13 trams in service at any one time will have a driver and at least one conductor on board, with extra conductors on trams and at tram stops during peak times. As well as selling tickets, conductors will provide a customer service by helping passengers with travel information and assistance getting on and off the trams if they need it.

People with mobility and sight impairment and hearing difficulties should benefit from features which are an integral part of the design of the new tram system, which is claimed to be the first UK tram system to be fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act requirements.

Concessionary bus passes for the elderly and disabled are valid on NET, providing free transport except during the morning peak period

A five minute car journey is needed to access the Moor Bridge station but parking is FREE all day
Hucknall Station - short walk to Town Centre or TESCO 427 spaces
Moor Bridge (nearest station) 116 spaces
Bulwell Town Centre 65 spaces

The initial popularity of the system has resulted in extra services being added (a fully detailed timetable is available on all of the trams), but there is a general frequency of one tram every twelve minutes during the daytime, and every twenty minutes during the evening. Slightly less frequent on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Recorded announcements on the trams keep passengers fully informed about their whereabouts, destination and stops - so visitors to the City should have no fear of getting lost!

For more detailed information about the whole system you can visit the NET Website. (See Web Links page)

This modern  Express Transit System is a considerable improvement on the earlier version as seen in the adjacent photo taken in Bulwell Market circa 1930.
